WPFG 01UAB physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, nurses and certified medical assistants will be providing care to the 2025 World Police & Fire Games athletes.The University of Alabama at Birmingham is the official medical provider of the 2025 World Police & Fire Games, which will kick off in Birmingham this month.

“Hosting the World Police & Fire Games is a tremendous honor for our city, and UAB Medicine is proud to play a key role in supporting the health and safety of these dedicated public servants,” said Dawn Bulgarella, chief executive officer of UAB Health System. “Our involvement reflects our clinical excellence and our commitment to honor those who serve and protect our communities.”

The WPFG consists of Olympic-style competitions with thousands of first-responder athletes representing different countries across the world. This includes law enforcement, firefighters and other public safety personnel. The WPFG are held biennially and typically include more than 60 sports.

“UAB Medicine is proud to serve as the official medical provider in the 2025 World Police & Fire Games,” said John Lax, M.D., a board-certified sports medicine physician and medical director for the WPFG. “We are looking forward to the opportunity to support our first responders through high-quality sports medicine care throughout the event.”

Physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, nurses and certified medical assistants from UAB Medicine will provide care to the WPFG athletes. UAB will have a central medical hub at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex and medical stations at all sporting venues. They will be providing wellness and recovery services for the athletes.

UAB Police will compete in the 2025 WPFG from June 27-July 6.
